Kent Circle@0,75x.png

My name is Daniela Kent and I teach Junior English (College and Advanced Prep) in addition to coaching teachers through our new textbook adoption and technology integration. I currently have a 21st century technology pilot classroom, which has provided me with great insight in classroom design and technology implementation.

When I am not at school, you can find me working out, raising two boys, and discovering new technology. I am also a huge digital information consumer, hoping to grow my own influence in the edtech and fashion communities.

Let’s set some trends!

It's My Birthday!

It's My Birthday!

Ahhh, to be 21 again. Funny how every year, I celebrate the anniversary of my 21st birthday. How long do you ask? Nevermind that.

Each year, my birthday is usually the day I stop and think about the year's past progress, failures, and milestones. How have I changed? How have I remained the same? Am I moving towards being the person I "want" to be? Hmm.

There is one theme that I can't shake: time passing. Getting older is unavoidable in the time that passes, but the hardest part is becoming the generation that I used to think was unattainable, the "parent" group, the caretaker group. You know how when you grow up, your parents, and/or grandparents were those infallible beings that were able to drive, drink wine, and use the "because I said so!" excuse. They picked you up from school when you weren't feeling well. They supplied sage wisdom and astute advice, and even bailed you out if you needed some help.

Now, I am that generation. Even though my kids are small, I am part of that generation that is all of those things to my own kids and even my students. It's not that it is a bad generation to belong to, but that it means that just like me, everyone else is getting older too. I can admit to myself that I am getting older, but seeing things change in everyone else, makes me a little sad.

It pains me to see my mom get older, my grandmother forgets which day it is, and sadly, experience the loss of other prominent family figures.  I am seeing things in myself I never thought I would see, but I am taking them in stride (and the help of a good facialist). With that, it also means that my kids are getting older. Cuddling is harder and harder to do. Picking up those little boys is harder with their added weight and long, long, legs. One day, they're going to be embarrassed when I drive them to school or kiss them good-bye. That KILLS me.

Alas, things change, so we must adapt. Maybe I can spend the next year doing just that. Until then, I am going to eat the cookie cake the boys are making me and fit in a workout so I can still fit into my pants. ;)
